A quick chat with GOOD LEKKER

Hey guys, loving the new track ‘Hard To Be Alone’! Being such a large band is it difficult to settle on a theme? Talk us through your song writing process.

With such a diverse range of influences we have come to love making our tracks with six people having their say. We all have a liking to bands like LCD Soundsystem, Foals and Two Door Cinema Club so we find that these always seep into our jam sessions. Bands like them do not always stick to one style which I also find a great approach to writing music for Good Lekker. When considering our tracks themes, I believe that it’s too hard to decide what a song is going to be before we have all come together. One member usually comes to a session with a hook, riff or even a quick demo. Then we just let the jam take the song wherever it wants to. For us the song writes itself.

If you could share the stage with any artist (dead or alive) who would you choose?

We could all agree that James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem would be amazing to have on stage with us. It would be great to play a synthy house style track with him serenading the crowd with some dark ominous poetry. As mentioned above Murphy is a serious influence for both Good Lekker’s writing and production style, so it would be a no brainer for us to share the stage with him.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never listened to Good Lekker?

Good Lekker’s music is a whole lot of energy and emotion. Generally speaking, I would say our music stems from Brit-rock that was coming out around 2010. With this in mind one can expect lots of big punchy drums and plenty of production. Good Lekker’s music has lots of build-ups leading into anthem like choruses, big riffs from guitars and synths sprinkled everywhere. I would say our music tries to touch on various ideas and issues from politics to our own relationships. When listening to Good Lekker we hope that these ideas combined with our sound make into both easy and interesting to listen to.

If you could perform at any festival of your choice, what would it be?

We would love to take our show to Glastonbury. I feel the crowd at Glasto would love our music and hopefully open up a big old mosh-pit for it. Us as a band have never been to Glastonbury, but our keys player Oli speaks of it as a labyrinth of stages and feels like multiple festivals in one festival. Not only would it be amazing to play there, it would be great to experience it as a punter.

Can we expect any live shows from Good Lekker in the near future?

To celebrate our new track ‘Hard to Be Alone’ Good Lekker will be playing a couple shows around NSW. We’ve got Wollongong on Feb 19th at The Beaches Hotel, Sydney on March 5th at The Lansdowne Hotel, Newcastle on March 12 at The Lass and Canberra on March 28 at Sideways Bar. Hope to see you there!
