A Quick Chat with Lara Villani

How did you get into music?
I started music when I was 6 years old. Getting into singing due to my older sister getting into singing. Music has always been a big part of my upbringing. My parents always played music around the house, at the family restaurant in the car everywhere! I loved singing along

How has your music shifted since your previous releases?
My music has entered its new era! There has been a big shift in genre and I believe this to be such a fun new style that I am enjoying and loving. As an artist, finding your style and genre is an interesting journey, to say the least. I wanted to write a track that was similar to songs that I really enjoy listening to on a day-to-day basis. This song was inspired by my own personal taste in music and honestly opened my eyes to a new world of writing.

What was it like to create this track compared to the other two?
Fire is sooooo fun, This song was the least emotional of the 3 tracks and was a really exciting and fun process! Writing a pop track is about fun and expression and I believe that writing this track has opened a new world for me. I cant wait to show everyone.

Why the change of genre?
The genre change came about as I collaborated with different producers and writers as many artists do. I think as an artist I am at such an important part of my career and exploration is key when finding your sound. I came to my producer with a cool idea of a track and I wanted to write a song that I would personally enjoy and could sit on my daily playlist. Don't get me wrong I love my first 2 singles however the writing process for Fire was less emotionally taxing as it's about a universal experience rather than a personal one.

What has your music journey been like?
My musical journey has been an interesting ride, I have always loved music, there's something about it that connects to me. I started my musical journey back when I was 6 years old. Singing and Piano lessons at my primary school with an amazing Coach Margarete Hunt. She showed me musical theatre. This ignited a passion for musical performance throughout primary and high school and the ability for music to tell a narrative. In high school, I started playing guitar and my love for music deepened when I learnt the history of blues and rock and roll. I started singing in a duo with my best mate Aaron at school open nights and assemblies and always found the stage as my happy place. After school and throughout the pandemic I was working on my first 2 singles writing and recording and this was when I knew that I needed to continue my musical journey. Releasing these 2 singles and having people resonate with personal emotions I was feeling to me is undoubtedly the best feeling in the world. There have been many ups and downs in my musical journey and it hasn't been an easy ride recently however I know that writing and releasing music is what I am meant to do, and nothing will stop me.

What is the track about?
Fire is a song about a passionate and fiery relationship. Having a connection with someone that you cannot ignore, the connection is hard to explain however the minute this person walked into your life you knew it was just right. Your connection is dangerous as you know it could have the potential to hurt however the passion and love are too good to ignore.

Why do you make music?
I make music as it simply makes me happy. Putting pen to paper and creating lyrics is my own escape. Making music makes me feel important, makes me feel fulfilled and I believe fills my cup. There is no place better for me than in the studio writing and collaborating with my producer Steve. When a song comes together and you are building it piece by piece it's a work of art and hearing it lights up my soul. (sooooo cheesy lmao but true)
