A Quick Chat with Loosie Grind

How did the name Loosie Grind come about?
It’s a play on my sound & what I like to produce. I love loose vocals and sounds that grind ever so slightly against the beat.

How did you first start your journey in music?

-I’ve been singing and songwriting my whole life, then in lockdown I bought myself a little S2 traktor controller so I could teach myself how to DJ. It was a natural progression into production, I bought Ableton and reached out to some friends in the industry to give some tips & tricks.

Can you tell us what your new track ‘Get What I Want’ means to you and what you want people to take away from it?
- My new single “What I What I Want" has what it means in the title. it’s about getting what you want, having that confidence, working hard & manifesting what you want. In a way it’s a reflection of my whole journey here, everyone telling you, it’s not a real  job, you can’t make money off it, only a percentage of people get signed and here I am doing it.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
I want to work on a track with Cloonee, I really like his music production and draw a lot of inspiration from his sound. If I could choose a vocalist it would be Jorja Smith, I love her voice, I love her tracks and that’s what I’mI listening to other than house music -  It would be cool to have those two worlds meet a bit more.

If you could change something about the Australian music industry what would it be?
I think it would be really cool to have more local artists on lineups and a varied lineup as well. I guess it comes down to the bookers/promoters trusting that whoever is on the lineup is going to be good. They need to be  willing to experiment with new sounds and new artists they haven’t heard before.

What’s your favourite memory from a gig?
The Albury gig I did last year with Banquet DJs! I got to play out some track IDs for the first time with a big crowd, it was packed and the crowd had lots of energy, it was fun!

Any plans for upcoming shows?

Yes, I have my single release party Thurs June 8th at Shades Bar syd/Eora. It’s a free imeservice event with tooth gemming station, stick & poke tattoos & more. I’m debuting at Club above July 1st @ The Ivy in Syd/eora!
