A Quick Chat with Mell Hall

CAN YOU TELL ME A BIT ABOUT YOUR INSPIRATION FOR YOUR SINGLE ‘END OF TIME FEAT. SAHARA BECK’?

Hello there! I had been sitting on this record for some time - put it on my studio shelf, let it gather some dust - before going back to it, dialling-up the tempo for dance-floor readiness, reminiscent of the types of sets I play. I like to think I can (hopefully!) create a-kind-of ‘modern nostalgia’ through my production - that will always be my inspiration. ‘Till the end of time!

WHAT WAS THE CREATIVE AND COLLABORATIVE PROCESS LIKE FOR YOU ON THIS TRACK?

I lovedddd what Sahara did on ‘Can’t Get Enough’ for Purple Disco Machine - that voice! I knew immediately I wanted to work together. If not now, when? I sent her the record with no real direction, simply wanted to see what she’d come up with, the creative freedom to do so. And damn! Did she deliver! Literally one re-sing of one bridge and I had what I needed.

WHAT ARE SOME MUSICAL INFLUENCES YOU CAN LIKEN YOUR SOUND TO?

For me, it’s a mixture of sound and performance together that I’m influenced by. How good is seeing a DJ throw-down, having the time of their lives? LP Giobbi is an absolute Queen - her sets, production and character I admire endlessly. On the Aussie tip, I can't go past CC Disco. Right?

WHO WOULD YOUR DREAM COLLABORATION BE WITH AND WHY?

KYLIE KYLIE KYLIE! No explanation necessary. I’m just setting up my whole career to catch her ear, haha.

FAVOURITE TOUR MOMENT?

Less specific - but anytime I receive positive feedback while on tour in regards to bridging the gap for Women in Dance Music - there is no better compliment! My job is not done until the conversation is!

WHO ARE SOME LOCAL ACTS WE SHOULD CHECK OUT?

Becca Hatch, Becca Hatch! I had the pleasure of seeing her open for George Alice at The Gov here in Adelaide a few months back - what a voice! She’s been killing it of late - no surprises here.

HOW DO YOU PLAN ON FINISHING UP 2022?

Feeling super-SUPER grateful to be on the road for the rest of ‘22, hitting up Wine Machine, Rhythm ‘n’ Vines, Wild Campout, as well as a bunch of club shows across AUS/NZ. With allllll the new music coming at the beginning of next year!
