A QUICK CHAT WITH POOLCLVB

Tell us a little about POOLCLVB.

Im Dan! I live in Sydney, I go to bed at 8pm, I mute all group chats, I love meditation and skateboarding and occasionally release music!

Can you tell me a bit about the inspiration behind 'Broken Heart'? And how did you link up with Fanta Ballo?

I really wanted to bookend my last single ‘Love Type’ with an emotionally charged conclusion. I felt there was more story to tell within the dynamic of relationship, falling in and out of love and the closure we seek. I have a deep appreciation for spoken word performance art and the TikTok algo brought me to Fanta, so I contacted her and here we are! She’s an incredibly gifted poet, activist and a published author. The vocal you hear isn’t a polished studio recording, it's straight from the stage and an intense delivery that captures her raw emotion

What's the creative process for you?

I thrive in collaboration, but it all starts with a sample..I love working with artists who have a story or a truth to tell. Something raw, deep and relatable, be it sample or original vocals. Ive also been experimenting with the more emotive side of dance music and exploring more textural environments in my music.

Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with? Why?

Mac Miller, if only! Honest and authentic, someone I could listen to for the rest of my life!

If you could change something about the Australian music industry what would it be?

A better representation of women, trans and non-binary electronic artists by labels globally. Ive been collaborating with 23x23 over the last couple of years, an initiative spear headed by Sydney Blue and LP Giobbi, campaigning to labels both Aussie and internationally, to increase their signing of women, trans and non-binary artists to higher percentage of 23% by the end 2023, in 2022 the figure was still extremely low, about 4-5%. “We don’t receive many demos form women’, ’not many women produce music’, and ‘we have a girl on our label already” are common responses from (usually) male A&R reps, when asked about their representation. You can not be, what you can not see... and labels have power to inspire an entirely new generation of producers and artists.

What’s your advice to young people who want to make a career for themselves in the industry?

Don’t be passive with your Art! Talk about it, celebrate it, post about it...relentlessly.

Who's the most interesting person you've worked with/met?

Pat Carroll, a stunning textural house and ambient producer I’m lucky enough to get to collaborate with. He has a PHD in music.. literally Dr. Music. I never have any idea what he’s talking about when where in the studio together.

Any upcoming shows / tours to plug?
