A Quick Chat With SaxONLY
Congratulations on your new EP Social Introvert - can you talk to us about the title and where it came from?
I made this EP with a blank canvas not knowing what I wanted at all. The only thing I was confident on was the name. I used to tell myself when I was 16 if I ever drop a project I want it to be called “Social Introvert”. I also really relate to the title aswell so I thought it was a perfect fit.
Who - or what - was influencing you while creating the album?
My influence for this album was definitely my younger self. I’ve put a lot of work into my music over the last few years and I feel this album is a big stepping stone in my career so I definitely kept my younger self in mind.
What was the creative process like for Social Introverts, from writing through to recording?
The process was very natural and straightforward. If I heard a beat I like I’ll go record on it in my bedroom or the studio. I really tried not to overthink the project and just have fun with it.
Do you have a current favorite song on the EP, and why?
My favorite song off the EP is definitely “Level” it just hits different
Can you tell us about some of the themes you explore on the EP?
I wanted to make a mixed bag of styles when making this EP. I really wanted to step out of my comfort zone and branch out to be more versatile.
Visually, how would you describe this body of work?
I would definitely say it has a strong red theme just because we used a lot of imagery that was red. I think it fits perfectly
Is there a song on the EP that was perhaps especially challenging and is now one you are most proud of?
“Feel No More” actually took 2 years to make. I was 17 in a studio session with Liam Quinn and he show me the beat to “Feel No More” I remember having trouble writing on it so we left it alone. Then 2 years later when I caught up Liam again we finished the song.
What is exciting you at the moment? Aside from music?
Summer I can’t wait for the warm weather.
Who are some local artists we should check out?
Phi11a and Zpluto are dope!
What did celebrating the EP release look like for you?
I held an exclusive listening party in Sydney the day the EP came out it was super special and cool seeing people’s reaction to the project
What’s next for SaxONLY?
A lot more music. More shows and more content
