A Quick Chat with Sea Animals In Seattle

Congratulations on the single! What are your plans to celebrate now that it is finally out?

Thanks so much, it's been very exciting to finally release this song to the world. As for celebrations, we might just get together with some friends and have a couple of beers like we always do. We can listen to the song on repeat until we all get sick of It.

What is the story behind ‘Busy Doing Things’?

‘Busy Doing Things’ came about mostly by accident. It started off as a synthesizer jam that went for about 20 minutes which we had saved on our computer and completely forgot about. Months later, we found out RXK Nephew was selling verses, so we decided to try to hit him up. He sent us over an acapella rap and we had no idea what to do with it. We tried putting it over songs that we were working on but the rapping was so intense and unusual that it didn't flow with anything. Then when all hope was lost, we tried pairing it with that synth jam mentioned earlier and it flowed so well It was like magic. After that, it was a matter of trimming that jam down from 20 minutes to a neat 2 and a half minutes – and that's the song.

Can you introduce us to each member of Sea Animals In Seattle with an fun fact about your collective?

A fun fact about our collective is that all of us have our own little side projects that we work on, as well as being part of the collective. We go by our stage names and a few of us have songs out at the moment, which we released through our record label Cool Comatose We.

The collective consists of:

  • Lex Neville (which is made up of producers Lex and Neville)

  • Space Cop 2

  • Did Miro

  • Lightbrain

  • Kaiser Beams Midweek Mafia

  • Vermin Skermn

  • Backbone Skeekz

How is the process of writing as a collective?

It's quite fun. We all have our own styles and ways of doing things, but when we work as a collective we tend to just go with the flow and see what happens. A lot of our best ideas come out of nowhere, when we're just jamming and having fun. The tracks that we create end up sounding nothing like anyone could have expected, which is the whole purpose of this collective. On top of that, we've all been friends for a long time, so we all get along really well and that makes creating music so much easier to do.

What can fans expect to see next from Sea Animals In Seattle?

We have a special song coming out on 4/20, If you know what we mean.
