A Quick Chat with Sienna-Rose Jerak
What was the initial spark that got you started in pursuing music seriously?
I started performing very young and loved performing live.I always knew this is what I wanted to do, there was never a moment, it was always there.
Tell us a bit about the most recent single. What does it mean to you?
To Fly to me is about wanting to be free from the pressures of social media. To have a break from being judged criticised and always having to be visible. My generation is the first generation to have their entire lives played out online There is pressure to be on social media or otherwise be isolated. We do sometimes want a break from that stress, and we want to be free to do things we love to do. We want to grow and fly without always being judged.. We would like older generations also, to understand, that we do struggle. Sometimes we just want to be a kid.
Are there any inspirations you look to beyond music when writing or performing?
I look at people who have overcome incredible struggles who have remained strong and true to themselves,
When not working on music, what other creative outlets are you pursuing?
I also act. I started training in dance drama and musical theatre when I was seven and started working from eight in TV commercials and Film. I trained at Centrestage in Melbourne and also at Margie Haber Acting Studio in Los Angeles.
Name the five songs that have informed your song writing more than any others?
One Sweet Day - Mariah Carey / Boyz to Men
Breakaway - Avril Lavigne
Hurt - Christina Aguilera
What's going on - Marvin Gaye
Tiny Dancer - Elton John
What Australian bands are you listening to at the moment?
5 Seconds of Summer and I love bands from the past like Cold Chisel, and Human Nature.
Where has been your favourite place to perform so far? What’s a venue you hope to play one day?
I haven't started playing live anywhere with my original music yet, but would love to play any place at this early stage in my career.
How do you hope your music might impact listeners?
I hope to inspire them to have courage and believe in themselves and to do what they want to do, and know age is just a number.
