A QUICK CHAT WITH SOULSLEEP

Congratulations on the latest single, 'Glass Heart'! What are the plans to celebrate the single?

Honestly, having 'Glass Heart' released feels like such a celebration in itself already.

But we will do a merch giveaway to include the fans in our excitement for this release.

Can you tell us a bit behind the track's story?

When COVID-19 began and the world declared a pandemic, Like many other people, I shut down, and my mental health deteriorated. I was depressed and angry and felt like I had no quality of life. It was the first time in my life that I had ever felt like this.

I was encouraged to see a psychologist, and I was lucky to get an appointment and be able to do so. I ended up on medication, and for someone who always thought things like that were "all in your head", it was a huge reality check, and I am now aware of how naive I was.

Throughout my whole life, music has always been my outlet. It is how I express myself and the only thing that has been consistent in my life, and with all of the lockdowns and restrictions, my outlet was taken away. I struggle with heavy emotions and have never liked talking about them. Just like you, there was no seeing my mates for that dopamine hit.

My wife is my biggest supporter and has helped me the whole way. We have a life I could never have imagined for myself and our family. Just like glass, we are breakable, not indestructible, and speaking up and getting help is not weak.

How important do you think it is representing mental health in music, and how do you hope to achieve this?

Music can have a positive effect on brain chemicals such as dopamine. I feel like representing a negative feeling, emotion, or thought through music is a positive way to tell my story about my struggles with mental health. I believe it is essential to talk about what has been a taboo topic for too long, and this is my way of doing that. I'm not a huge talker, and I don't open up much, and this is the way that I do open up. I hope to achieve this by writing about my struggles and expressing that it isn't that way forever; maybe I can help someone see a brighter side.

What can fans expect from a SOULSLEEP live show, and what are some of your favourite performances to date?

Fans can expect to get to know us through our music. We believe that our music has a positive effect on people that synchronises everyone to feel good. We are fun, happy, and love what we do, and I think that bounces off us and radiates through the crowd.

What are you hoping to achieve in 2024?

We hope to have our debut EP released, and we would love to share the stage with as many great artists as possible and meet as many new people as possible along the way.
