A Quick Chat with Tessa Fleur

Can you tell us a bit about how ‘Avalon’ came together?

‘Avalon’ was born from a broken heart. I was fresh from a relationship's end and I had a melodic chorus that chanted  'Avalon' swimming in my head. At the time, I was unaware of any inherent meaning behind the word; I was simply drawn to how magical it sounded . Initially, I had only the chorus. The remainder of the song took shape on a recording weekend with Ali, my co-producer, out on his beautiful farm in the Scenic Rim. I felt I was enveloped in safety, I channeled my grief into the art. The entire process was deeply therapeutic.

What are some of the influences behind your upcoming EP?

There weren't any strong influences but I did feel Weyes Blood had influenced my sense of production. I adore the expansive and rich quality of her music. Aldous Harding's work resonates with me, especially the intimacy of her vocals and the purposeful use of each instrument in her production. I believe this influence is evident in 'Avalon'.

Where are you in your most natural habitat when songwriting?
