A Quick Chat with Will Clift

You’ve announced an East Coast tour in support of your new single “Sublime”. Can you tell us about the meaning behind the track?

Matt and I had spent the day prior recording a pretty heavy song with some more serious themes, we wanted “Sublime” to feel lighthearted and optimistic. It’s really about seeing the bigger picture and realising everything is going to be alright.

You grew up on the Sunshine Coast, how does it feel to be playing back on home turf? What do you miss most about the Sunshine Coast?

I love the Sunny Coast! I’m living back here in Moffat Beach now and it’s such a dreamy lifestyle. I’ve been hosting a couple of backyard shows that have been amazing- It’s so nice playing more wholesome, intimate shows.

You’re also playing on the Central Coast, Gold Coast and Byron Bay. What’s your favourite thing about touring in coastal towns?

The surf spots along the way! Plus they each have their own mini community of local muso’s and venues that are great to check out.

What advice would you give Australian artists in regional areas trying to make it big?

Keep up the work and do it yourself. It’s a great time to be an independent artist and there are no rules when it comes to making it in the music industry which can be both a pro and con. I think you have to test things out and make the mistakes to learn and improve.

You collaborated with Matt Corby on your latest track. How did you two come to work together?

I got to support Matt thanks to Wild Turkeys 101 Music program. He was an absolute legend and invited me to his studio to write a couple of tracks and we got on great and really enjoyed working together.

What can we expect next from Will Clift?

A couple more releases towards the end of the year and hopefully some international shows in 2025.
