A QUICK CHAT WTIH MILLAR JUKES

Can you tell me a bit about your inspiration for your single “Gittinit”?

I wanted to write a song about just having a good time and losing it all out on the dance-floor. Usually I write about relationships or beng self deprecating so it’s good to write something a bit different. Tried to be rock inspired on this one

What are your influences and how do they affect your songwriting?

On this EP I was listening to a lot of Royal Blood, Kaleo, Catfish & the Bottlemen and Rival Sons. It’s all about groove and blues rock. I’m a big indie kid too so I wanted to make this new EP have that indie feel to it.

What’s the creative process like for you?

This time it was about taking skeletons of songs to the band and letting each member put their own stamp on it. The whole recording process was amazing. Came together really easily and organically.

If you could change something about the Australian/New Zealand music   industry what would it be?

I think there is a good change in the amount of diversity in line-ups however we can still improve this but it’s getting so much better. Also the variety in line-ups is so good now. Melbourne is spoilt for choice when it comes to music!

What do you think life would be like for you if you didn’t have music as an outlet?

I’d be the same data geek as I’ve always been. My day job is in data and I love that kind of thing but I’m really glad I’ve got music as a creative outlet.

Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with?  Why?

In Melbourne, I’d say Bailey Judd at the moment. He’s got this electronic indie thing happening and I’m here for it. Love his riffs and melodies. He’s got a great live performance too!

What’s your advice to young people who want to make a career for themselves in the industry?

Keep going. Some people get lucky and others have to work harder. Don’t focus on what everyone else is doing. Do your thing and as long as you're passionate about it it will resonate with the right people.
