How did du0 fall into the world of electronic music?

Congratulations on your new single! What are the themes conveyed in ‘Way Back Down’?

Cheers. Way Back Down is a snapshot of a particular life stage we all reach – somewhere in between our hedonistic 20s and before we tumble into middle age. It recognises the blissful ignorance of the freedom that comes in those early years of adulthood – of carefree relationships built purely on physical attraction and fun, the snap decisions that lead to some of life’s great adventures. The highs that are so high, and the crushing lows on your way back down, or on your way to self‑awareness.

I can see now that where some people’s relationships held strong after they essentially grew up together and moved towards the same life journey, others fell apart when the “fun” was over. Growing up is a sad trick, but it’s really lucky we don’t know that until we’re done, cause man those times are good.

You’ve garnered quite a bit of support from Spotify, Pilerats, and Acid Stag with past releases. How rewarding has this all been?

I have been blown away with the positive reception of my previous releases. I can’t describe how exciting it is to see my songs being supported on such large platforms and to receive positive feedback from the industry. Music is my escape and my passion, and I get such a buzz from writing and producing songs. Being able to release them and share them internationally has given me such a kick and I am so motivated to keep producing tracks that speak to different listeners all over the world.

How did you fall into the world of electronic music?

I have been writing music since my early teens, when Nirvana were everything and metal spoke to me. I picked up a guitar and got some friends together in our garage with high hopes and big dreams. We were fortunate enough to play some great gigs around Queensland and in our hometown of Ipswich, with the likes of Jimmy Barnes and The Screaming Jets.

Electronic music was something I always dabbled in behind the scene – using hardware sequencers and samplers to make hip-hop based music.

I mellowed out in my twenties and honed my song writing skills as part of a roots band. I discovered my song writing hero – Nick Cave – and found my escape in writing songs that told stories of the everyday from new and interesting perspectives.

With du0, I am enjoying the freedom of electronic music, where I can play with an infinite amount of sounds and rhythm to enhance the melodies and snatches of lyrics that are inevitably still born on my trusty acoustic guitar.

Will you be doing any live performances before the end of the year?

I am in the process of finalising my show and am hoping to do a live performance with 4ZZZ here in Brisbane before the end of the year.
