LISTEN: Lupa J 'Put Me Back Together'
The never conventional, ever inventive Lupa-J recently announced a Sydney single launch and today offers up the impressive accompaniment, ‘Put Me Back Together’.
Driven by bold, electronically inspired beats that meander with Lupa-J’s angelic vocals ‘Put Me Back Together’ invites the listener into an emancipating groove. Exploring themes of relationship dynamics, and emotional expression, the track fights the idea that girls should live up to the ideal that a women should be soft, pretty and easily digestible.
“I was partially inspired by Charlotte Perkins Gilman's short story 'The Yellow Wallpaper' about a depressed woman of the early 1900s driven insane by her 'rest cure' treatment. For me, it’s really about how it can be ironically somewhat liberating to embrace & express emotional instability,” says Lupa J
First coming to attention as a finalist for an unprecedented two years running in triple J’s Unearthed High competition (2014 & 2015), Lupa J has forged an incredible path for herself. In 2016 she scored some huge support spots alongside Grimes, Sarah Blasko and Tegan and Sara amongst many others. Also exploring and developing her production skills, the Sydney based producer’s first remix - of Woodes’ song ‘The Thaw’ - was acclaimed by OWLSA blog Nest HQ as ‘brilliant and outlandish’.
‘Put Me Back Together’ releases Friday March 17 with the live launch on Tuesday April 11 – the first live performance of the year for Lupa J and one of the last shows at Newtown Social Club before it closes.
