SPARROWS REVEALS STUNNING EMOTIVE-POP SINGLE ‘TAKE MY HEART OUT’
After releasing two standout singles in 2016, Sydney-based songstress Sparrows has returned with her stellar follow up single ‘Take My Heart Out’ – a delicately layered track where poignant lyrics float over an infectious soundscape.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of Grimes, Lykke Li and Bjork, the self-produced and recorded effort combines sampled recordings with themes of folk, pop and electronica; whilst melding rich vocal harmonies and textures, delivering a genuinely raw account of an addictive relationship.
Sparrows describes the inspiration and meaning behind ‘Take My Heart Out’ –
“Seeing so many people getting lost in their devices lately, it got me thinking about a time when I lost my identity to a relationship. I could see myself doing ridiculous and embarrassingly obsessive things but couldn’t stop it, kind of like when you can't stop your thumb from scrolling, hoping you're going to land on a pot of gold. As humans, we all have a propensity to get caught up in addictive behaviour - often in an attempt to tame our mindless chatter or fill a void with stuff. Take My Heart Out is about crossing that fine line into addiction.”
Sparrows’ previous singles ‘On Your Own Now’ and ‘Get To Know You’ received strong support from the likes of triple j, FBi radio, Spotify via their New Music Friday, Indie Pop and Pop Edge playlists and worldwide tastemaker blogs, which earned the producer and vocalist a top ten position in the esteemed Hype Machine Now charts.
Sparrows was among thirty international and Australian songwriters and producers chosen to attend APRA’s most recent SongHub “The Tower” - a four-day songwriting camp which included musicians David Hodges (Evanescence), Francois Tetaz (Gotye) and Chris Walla (Death Cab for Cutie).
In the coming weeks, Sparrows will reveal the accompanying music video for ‘Take My Heart Out’.
‘Take My Heart Out’ will be released via Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and all good digital retailer’s on Friday June 30
