TOWNS' favourite memories performing live

Hey TOWNS! Thanks for taking the time to chat with us. How are you doing today?

Aston: Today! I’m in a weird space as I’ve just left a job I’ve been at for a long time and my nerves are currently crazy high about starting somewhere else, but nothing a bit of food and sitcoms can’t fix!

We’re super excited about your new single ‘Boring’, it’s very much the opposite of its title! What can you tell us about the track?

Aston: The track came together stupidly quickly, probably under 10 minutes for the demo to be done and sent off to Dan for his thoughts. The lyrics are from an older idea but they just felt right with this song so I slotted them in.

Dan: A lot of the random noises came from me mucking around on my laptop in GarageBand and making noises with my mouth! There’s one noise in there of a Cowbell through a weird experimental amp on GB. The quality was pretty average but our beautiful producer Jon still left it in there which was nice hehe

How do you battle boredom at home, and has this changed in the current climate?

Aston: God I’m really susceptible to boredom mainly because my attention span is SO Short when it comes to activities or movies.
The things that I’ve felt have kept me the most entertained have been stuff that has an end goal,  like sorting out ALL of my clothes or cooking something very intricate but I also caved and have now spent hours on tik tok because it’s short and simple how I like things.

Dan: I’ve been really loving watching tv while doing my jobs lately -  it’s just a bit of background noise but it helps keep me off of my time hole (my phone)

As best mates, we’d love to know
Dan - how would you describe Aston
Aston - how would you describe Dan?

Dan:
I just so completely adore and am in constant awe of Aston. He’s so incredibly talented and creative and just has this way of being so kind to everyone and is incredible at understanding everyone and has this way of just calming me down. He does this thing where he goes “Hey.. hey.. It’s alright. It’s no biggie!” and it just soothes me. He’s just magic
Aston: Personally I would describe Dan as sunshine, I’ve seen him glow in so many ways and he brings warmth to peoples days and everyone needs him. He’s also good at burning himself out and using all his energy so thank god for night time and putting him to sleep.

We hear you have a pretty loyal following, and even a very active Facebook fan group. What do you love most about the TOWNS community?

Aston: I love how diverse it is, we really don’t wanna sit in any genre boxes and we love that we can see ourselves having a little something for everyone. Our fans also support us so much, being a two piece can drain you a little quicker because there is less to share the load with, but our fans are the most loving people to us and give us a strong reason to smile whenever we play or hang out.

Dan: We wouldn’t be where we are today without our beautiful little community and they just make it so incredibly easy to be ourselves. It’s great because we’re pretty quick to beat ourselves up but they just pick us right back up. <3

What are some of your favourite memories of performing live as TOWNS?

Aston: SO MANY!

One that comes to mind was about 2 years ago I was playing a guitar that was quite old and the string snapped halfway through our song “I Don’t Mind” and everyone just kept it singing it, it was such dedication to see our song known well enough that we didn’t even need to play it and they could sing along.
