What can we expect at a Human Noise gig?

We’re loving your new track ‘How Is It You Do That?'.
Can you please tell us what the song is about?

Yeah, this one’s about looking up to a friend for his level-headedness in stressful or upsetting situations and kinda wishing I could be a little more like that.

You were previously known as Boydos, why the name change?

I just never really felt properly connected with ‘Boydos’. I didn’t feel like it represented the music well and it was something that starting to really get to me. I figured, coming into a new release it was time to make the change. I came across ‘Human Noise’ in a line of a Raymond Carver story. The quote really hit me hard and from then on I was pretty set on that. I love the sound of the words and the possibilities of their meaning.

The video for ‘‘How Is It You Do That?' is frantic and shot in one take, can you tell us about the making of it?

I wanted to make a clip on a budget of about $0 - $20 that encapsulated the energy of the song. I really love the effect of shooting in half time so that when you speed it back up the result is super frantic and unhinged. So I got my girlfriend Annie to film me walking down the street singing the song at half speed, and then spent way to long editing it to get all of the colour pops. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out!

We’ve been informed that you have some shows coming up in October!
Where can we check you out and what can fans expect at the gigs?

Yes! Very exciting, it’s been a long time. We’re playing two shows at The Vanguard in Sydney on October 15 and a show at La La La’s in Wollongong on October 23. You can expect to see four people who haven’t played a gig in 6 months and will be very very happy to be back on stage. We’ve got some new ones and some old ones and it’s going to be really fun and loud. Also we have some great supports - ilex is supporting the Sydney shows. She plays an amazing solo drum/electronic set that you should definitely get there early to see. And Boysnlove are playing with us in Wollongong. Annie writes really great songs and the band is super solid and it’s going to be great.
