What’s next for River Boy?

Can you please tell us about your latest release ‘Gimme My Soul’?

It’s a song about losing touch with purpose and direction. The line “I’ve been

disconnected from these choices of mine” sums up the sentiment of the verses.

The chorus however is demanding that agency back “Gimme my soul, gimme my spirit and bone”. It’s ultimately a song about reconnecting with youthful wonder, curiosity and excitement about life.

How have you been occupying your time during these past months in isolation?

I’m working on the music for a video game and I’ve been spending a lot of time on that. I’m also writing new River Boy material, been working on some beats for a few other artists too.

I’ve been really addicted to this game “Slay The Spire” of late. It’s a deck building card video game and it’s so hard to put down!

You were once part of electronic duo Willow Beats. How do you feel your music has evolved since then?

I feel like I’m less concerned with adding hundreds of little sounds and more interested in simplicity. I’m more focused on getting the core elements perfect as opposed to hundreds of micro edits. Apart from that my production is still quite similar!

Who are you currently listening to that’s got you excited?

Barkaa is a Malyangapa, Barkindji rapper and she’s honestly on a different level. Her voice is so powerful and unwavering, her message is so clear and unapologetic. You really have to hear her to get what I mean.

What’s next for River Boy? Is there a new EP or album coming in 2020?

I’ve got more singles I’m working on. An EP isn’t off the table! I’ve been thinking it’d be cool to release an instrumental EP at some point! A few collabs in the works too.
