Hey Josh, thanks for the chat today. Congratulations on the release of another single from your debut album! Tell us what effect Missy Higgins has had on your music and songwriting style.

Thanks! Missy is such an iconic Australian songwriter and I am humbled to be able to put my own twist on such an iconic song of hers. I think this song (just like all her others) tells a really strong narrative, that’s what I take some inspiration from with my upcoming releases. I stripped this song of hers right back and wanted to bring more attention to the lyrics of this one cause like I mentioned it’s such a beautiful song with a strong narrative.

I’ve had a sneaky listen to your upcoming music and it seems to tell a coming of age story of your personal and professional growth. Can you give us more of an insight into the inspiration behind your music?

For sure. My album is definitely an honest representation of the person I am now at 25, and dives deeper into the past 10 or so years of self discovery, touching on the topics of love and heartbreak, money and it’s ups and downs, and the overall narrative of what I have  and we all have experienced between the ‘then and now’ of our life I guess.

What is life like for you, right now, at this very moment in time? And how has the isolation process affected or changed the project?

It’s weird dude! For the first part of this pandemic, to be honest I was loving the free time to really finish my album and dig into some other creative projects  doing on the side. But once the finances started wearing thin, there has definitely been some challenging days that’s for sure, but in such a time of uncertainty I’m greatful and proud that I got to finish my debut album and utilise this space and time, as I know this has been the opposite for a lot of creatives, it’s a hard time and we don’t really know what our future has in store in the aftermath of this.

How does your upcoming music differ from that of your EP and previous releases?

It’s much better in my opinion! Haha. No, I dug deeper lyrically, spent a lot of time writing before choosing the best work I was the proudest of. I really took my time too, this has been about 1.5 years in and out of studio sessions and not rushing this process. There’s a great linear relationship between instruments and tones on this record which really helps paint the canvas nicely on this record. I worked Sam Swain (producer) who I have been working with for the past 4 years now on and off the stage - as well as Nate & Justin (band members) we know each other musically, we had the same vision with these songs and it was a super smooth process and I think that really resonates in the songs.

I think I have a fairly good idea, but what does the rest of 2020 have in store for you?

Let’s just wait and see! I love the unknown.
