What’s next for The Money War?
We’re loving your new single and video ‘Lifetime’. Can you please let us know what the track is about?
Thankyou! We actually had the chorus floating around for a couple of years but could never get it to work with any other parts. When we found out we were having a baby, suddenly the story within the song became clear. The song is basically about repeating the cycle through having your own child. I definitely thought I knew how my life was going to go when I was a kid. The song is about the naivety of thinking you have control - it’s a really beautiful thing to observe life taking its own shape before your eyes and it puts things into perspective.
Can you tell us about your song writing process? How does the fact that you are also a couple influence your writing?
I think it means that we know each other so well so it’s easy to cut through the bullshit. It’s also hard because you don’t always want to show a vulnerable side of yourself to your partner and getting into the depths of writing forces you to do that. I think The Money War’s strength is that we have both the male and female perspectives coming through in our music.
In regards to the process, we tend to write separately on piano or guitar and then bring ideas to each other to try and fully realize them. We record all TMW stuff ourselves at our studio too, so I feel like the production is a massive part of realising the songs too.
You’re from WA, are there any local bands that you’d recommend that we should keep an eye out for?
Camarano, Sam Carmody Jack Davies and the Bush Chooks, Paige Valentine. All are great songwriters with their own take on the world
2020 has been a turbulent year for everyone, especially musicians, have you got any plans to tour later this year?
It’s going to be a tricky one for us with the baby coming any day now, on top of the current pandemic, but we will no-doubt get back on tour once everything settles down.
What’s next for The Money War?
Really looking forward to our album coming out later this year! The birth of our baby will no doubt trigger a heap of creativity. I’ve also been writing and producing for a few artists who have releases coming up this year, so I’m looking forward to those coming out!
