CUB SPORT announce second album 'BATS'

Last month, Brisbane’s favourite alt-pop quartet Cub Sport surprised fans by releasing the deeply personal and heart-wrenching gospel/RnB-inspired pop tune "O Lord", the debut track off their much-anticipated second studio album “BATS” which we are excited to announce will be out on September 22.

‘BATS’ will be available digitally, as well as on CD and vinyl.

The single, which was written by singer Tim Nelson last year in the wake of coming out as gay and in a relationship with bandmate Sam, follows the realisation and fear that when you finally get everything you ever wanted, you suddenly have something to lose.

“I was free to be my true self, I was finally in a relationship with the love of my life and I had full love and support from my friends and family, but what I didn’t expect was the realisation that when you get everything you’ve ever wanted you suddenly have everything to lose. This song ended up being my way of grappling with those feelings.” – Tim Nelson

The song became an anthem for their fans, racking up a hundred thousand plays in a matter of days, was added to triple J rotation, was featured on multiple Apple and Spotify playlists, and prompted headlines such as "O Lord is perfect" (Project U) and "'O Lord' is a harmony-drenched, intimate love letter to that breathtaking, fragile happiness that comes with getting the thing you really, really wanted" (Pedestrian).

This followed on from the success of their debut record 'This Is Our Vice' last year which featured the single "Come On Mess Me Up" that was voted #24 in The Hottest 100, has been streamed over 3 million times, and led to their stand out Like A Version of "Ultralight Beam", and supporting The 1975 on their Australian Arena tour.

Now, they are excited to share with you the video for "O Lord" - which not only visually represents the liberation of coming out, but also breaks down some of the personal battles with beauty and masculinity Tim has experienced in his life.
This is Cub Sport shaking off their demons, and baring all.

"I feel like the O Lord video is the visual soulmate for the song - it beautifully represents what the song means for me and it feels like a personal triumph! I was bullied when I was growing up because I wasn’t as masculine as some of my peers apparently thought I should be. It’s something I’ve been self-conscious about for years, so it’s super liberating to make this video and feel free from judgement. The video was directed, shot and edited by the wonderful Joe Agius. I couldn’t imagine making this video with anybody else."

“Largely written, recorded and produced at home, BATS is an intimate album inspired by personal experiences of growth, disappointment, self-doubt, partying, learning to accept and trust myself, coming out and falling in love.  While still deeply rooted in pop, BATS explores soul and R&B influences making for our sexiest, most honest release to date.”
