What inspired making your own Music Video montage for Crazy Without You?

‘Crazy Without You’ is super, super intimate. I co-wrote and co-produced it with my partner, and thought it’d be fun and interesting to create my own weird, intimate music video to go with it. I want the viewer to feel like they’re in the passenger seat of my memories, of beautiful places from all over the world that we might not get to see for a long time, because of this pandemic.

I had travel footage on my phone from over 27 countries, and when COVID happened, I thought “Wow, I might not see any of those countries for a while...” and found myself re-watching and cherishing those travel videos on my phone, almost like looking back on a past life - so I combined them all into the music video montage. This global yearning of wanting life to go back to how it was pre-pandemic, combined with the yearning of going crazy without being with someone you love, all merged together.

How would you describe your music to your Grandparents?

I’d describe it as a cinematic experience. It’s a merge of tense melodramas about unrequited love and yearning. Crooning ballads created with quasi symphonic production and brooding vocals. Every song is backed with surging strings, ominous drum rolls/beats, and heavenly sounding choirs. There’s also weird textural soundscapes firing off in the background that sound like little aliens beeping? Made with synths and glockenspiels!

What’s your favourite meal and or food?

Pecan pie. Olives and oysters. Orange juice. I drink so much orange juice.

What do you love about your hometown?

Hobart (Tassie in general) has the most amazingly heady, fresh air and luscious green forests and landscapes – it’s incomparable. I love this, alongside bumping into at least 4-5 people you know, just whilst walking through the city. I love that you don’t have to drive too far before you find your own isolated beach or deserted forest. You can go exploring and find new water holes in Longley, or sea caves on Bruny Island. Oh and I love Tassie’s oysters. Damn they have good oysters. And Tasmanian Leatherwood honey!

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Weirdly, it was some quote that sort of offended me and made me rethink my entire life path and commit to my music. It goes, “How long can you afford to put off who you really want to be? The longer you wait, the more you’ll be vulnerable to mediocrity and feel filled with shame and regret.” –Epictetus. Some confronting advice right there.

Song lyrics to live by?

“I want something good to die for, to make it beautiful to live”

– Queens of the Stone Age

Describe yourself in 3 words?

Instinctive, Melancholic, Vivacious

Are you Working on an EP / Album?

Yes. It’s pretty much almost done, but I’m my own worst critic and it’s super important for me to execute my vision (sonically, visually, aesthetically) with every drop of what I’ve got. I’m hoping to have an EP released mid 2021, but maybe it’ll just end up turning into an Album at this stage because there is so much music which is really exciting, so who knows! Stay tuned!
