A QUICK CHAT WITH THE RIOT
Love the new video for Same Blunt. Where do you THE RIOT call home?
Home for THE RIOT is currently QLD but we have all migrated to Australia from different parts of the globe. If u would ask us where home should be I think right now we would all say the road. We can’t wait to get on the road and tour the world.
Could you tell us about “Same Blunt”?
We wanted to say something serious in a fun way and also show u a more light hearted side to us. Compared to dog in the shade which was more self reflective and emotive. Same Blunt is a song about how at the end of the day no matter how successful or famous u are we all are human and do the same thing.. we smoke. And all the build up that we have in our minds about how we idolise all these celebrities but at the end of the day their all the same and what u see in them is in you anyway.
How did you guys meet?
Me and Tyler met because I was rejected entry into a venue and spat back into the same line.. Tyler and his friends noticed me and tapped on my shoulder saying they had ‘another way’ and said they could sneak me in and boom that’s how we met. After we got in we walked to the bar and one of the guys that snuck in with us Jon introduced me to the rest of the guys that snuck me in and it happened to be Tyler we got to talking and worked out we both made music i told him about this band idea I had, he introduced me to Scotty… was complete fate.
What does it mean to be in THE RIOT?
THE RIOT to us means power in unity of a group of people oppressed and our voices suppressed. A generation of people who have been misled and now standing up for one another, who love to show the system that we can not be stopped. We have full creative freedom and not limited in our self-expression. Thats what THE RIOT means to us.
Could you tell us about some of the most recent piece of music you’ve been working on?
We have been working on a lot of new songs. The most recent song we have been working on is another journey, with the music and with what we are speaking about within the song. We feel like its something that needs to be said. That’s all I'm going to say about it, but trust it will be another rhythm and chaos banger.
Who is a dream producer/dream collaboration for THE RIOT?
This is easy. Rick Rubin, Kevin Parker, Pharrell Williams
When you’re not making music/not in the studio, what do you guys get up to?
Well we all have our individual things we do. Tyler paints and plays golf, JD makes beats and writes music for a lot of different acts and also designs clothes, Scotty works in architecture and also makes beats in his spare time but the one thing we all do religiously is play NBA2K
