A Quick Chat with True Vibenation

WHAT INSPIRED YOUR NEW SINGLE WILDCARD (FEAT.JANNAH BETH)?

We were touring all over the world and it was such a huge vibe we wanted to capture the energy of the chaos that is a world tour. It’s an invitation to go all in and just let go, and a tribute to the wild ones! We got together with Blush and got the ideas down, and when we showed the tune to Jannah she was instantly down for it.

WHO WOULD YOU SAY ARE SOME OF YOUR GREATEST INFLUENCES AS AN ARTIST? BOTH MUSICALLY AND NON-MUSICALLY?
Musically, the song was very much inspired by Kaytranda and the disco era.

Were also hugely inspired by the Nigerian Legend Fela kuti, especially the strong message, energy and huge horn sections.

We’re all horn players so anything with a huge horn section we’re psyched by!

Playing Uno in our downtime or in hungover days was an inspiration.

Also Sunshine. Nothing more inspiring than a full day in the sun with mates!

WHO ARE SOME LOCAL BANDS WE SHOULD CHECK OUT?

We reckon Boomchild are great (Blush who Produced Wildcard plays drums for them (Definitely go see them live fam!)

Another local artist we’ve been loving is Mike Akox, a fast rising Afro beats artist everyone needs to be checking out right now.

Also Kobie Dee has been making some powerful music, he’s a great rapper and storyteller and an all round legend.

WHAT ARE SOME WORDS OF WISDOM YOU WOULD PASS ON TO ARTISTS JUST STARTING OUT TO GET THEIR FOOT IN THE DOOR?
We would say don’t be afraid to get out there and start playing live shows! The algorithms can be distracting, but there’s nothing like going out and trying out songs with audiences, learning what works and what doesn't and playing to different people as far and wide as you can to hone your craft.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE WILDCARD MOMENT ON TOUR?

After a massive night of getting wild with Haiku Hands after playing at Boomtown Festival in the UK, we were stumbling around as the sun started to rise and causing mischief.

We eventually ended up breaking into an amusement ride so we could slide down the giant novelty slide. Let’s just say security was not happy.

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM TRUE VIBENATION IN THE NEXT YEAR?

Lots more live shows, touring, big horn sections and good times. We’re always in the studio working on new music and have a lot of huge tunes banked up we’ll be releasing in the next year.
