A QUICK CHAT WITH JACK BERRY
1: Congratulations on the release of your new single ‘Psycho’. It’s a real contagious tune! How did it come about?
It came about through a writing session with Djeisan Suskov, I’m new to that whole thing, but open to anything especially with musicians I admire! We spent the afternoon/evening writing & recording a track and this is what we got. I had some shows coming up, so we let it loose online!
2: You’ve already received the big thumbs up from triple j, including a Good Nights premiere, and a spin on 2019 with Kingsmill, as well as some love from Spotify. Do you feel like your persistence is paying off?
I’m thankful for everybody who has gotten behind it, I think the fact of it being a slick production has opened a lot more doors, so thank you Djeisan! My persistence is directed towards Jack Berry being as DIY as possible.
3: Is there any city in particular you are most looking forward to performing in ahead of your shows with BENEE and Lime Cordiale?
I’m excited for every show on the tour, I haven’t left New Zealand since I was 10 so it’s going to be a fun one. My girlfriend went to Sydney last year and really enjoyed it, so I’m eager to follow her recommendations!
4: From your experience, how does the New Zealand crowd differentiate from the Australian crowd? (don’t play favourites)
Don’t have a clue yet but I guess we will find out, New Zealand has some great regular touring artists/bands so people are always keen to come along and enjoy themselves, plus we’re small so there's always a familiar face in the crowd, maybe that’s what we will be different across the ditch!
