One thing Yuma X want you to know about them

We’re loving new track, Secret Lover, where did the name Yuma X come from?

 Thank you! Happy to have it out in the world! We were going to call ourselves Yumi originally (you and me) but was too similar to another bands name that started releasing music around the same time as us so we ended up with Yuma X! 

What has been your biggest challenge as a duo? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

Lucy: I think for me, it’s communicating with each other. We’re both such different personalities and learning how to express what we’re feeling to each other, or even listening to what we don’t say to each other and how to navigate our musicianship within that. Rather than something to “overcome” it’s something that we’re learning and developing constantly.

Do you think that taking hiatus from music benefitted your creative process or did you find it difficult to bring yourself back into the music mindset?

There’s this odd misinterpretation that because we had a big lull between releases that we must have stopped writing music. We didn’t stop creating in between releases at all. We have so many songs! So we didn’t really have to bring ourselves back to a musical mindset but I feel like we had to remind ourselves that we can do this, that people like our music, that it feels good to do this and we have a place in this world doing it. If anything we had to get out of our own heads a bit!

With live events on hold, what has been your favourite live moment so far of your career that makes you feel nostalgic and excited to get back on the road?

Lucy: All of it. Everything haha. Cant wait

What have you been doing to drive creativity during isolation?

Lucy: Ive been listening to lots of albums, old and new. Reading, cooking. Percolating over lyrics. 

JAKE: Im listening and trying to discover as much new music and writing as I can at the moment. Im really enjoying it!

 What is one thing you want people to know about Yuma X? 

Lucy: We are not related and we’re not dating. Haha

Jake: It would definitely be a bit awkward if we were related and dating.

What is one thing you don't want people to know about Yuma X?

Lucy: Well, if we told you you’d know about it wouldn’t you ;)

What’s next for Yuma X?

More tunes! We just recorded final vocals for our next single yesterday. Jakes doing a few final production tweaks and its off to the mixers. Keen for Covid to go away so we can play these new ones live already!
