Secret Sounds is super excited to announce that Father John Misty is extending his stay down-under! Already announced to play at this year’s Splendour in the Grass, FJM will also take to stages in Sydney and Melbourne this July for two intimate headline shows.

Father John Misty AKA Josh Tillman comes to Australia armed with his newest record, ‘Pure Comedy’. Set for release on today, the album sees Tillman at the height of his powers: as a lyricist and cultural observer. FJM navigates themes of progress, technology, fame, the environment, politics, social media, human nature, and his own role in it all with his usual candour.

Tillman wrote ‘Pure Comedy’ throughout 2015, recording the vocals and basic tracking live to tape (and in no more than two takes each) at the iconic United Studio’s in LA.

Since 2012, Father John Misty has emerged as a singular, if not undeniably idiosyncratic voice. Whether by virtue of his lyrics, which routinely defy the presumed polarities of wit and empathy; his “intimately beserk” live performances, or the infuriating line he occupies between canny and totally ironic, Father John Misty has cultivated a rare space for himself in the musical landscape - the enigma.

‘Pure Comedy’ is the follow up to Tillman’s critically acclaimed second LP ‘I Love You Honeybear’. With slots at the likes of Coachella and Glastonbury to his name and nods from big players like Rolling Stone, NME and Pitchfork, ‘I love You Honey Bear’ catapulted FJM to new heights.
