Eilish Gilligan releases all-consuming new single,'The Feeling'

Melbourne’s Eilish Gilligan has today released her new single 'The Feeling', an offensive call to stifle all-consuming emotions. This is the first we've heard from Eilish in 2017, and hints at the heavy, sleek complexities to follow in the enigmatic EP expected to drop later in the year via TEEF.

While Eilish's 2016 release 'Here' was wistful and resigned, 'The Feeling' is determined to lull and then excite; the characteristic vocal is the only constant here. This track pushes the latent unease of 'Here' into overdrive, breaking the surface of the water and propelling towards the final chorus with undeniable assurance.

Eilish says that despite it's title, the track "doesn’t refer to one ‘feeling’ in particular, but to any feeling that successfully squeezes itself where it isn’t wanted - despondence, hopelessness, even feelings of love - after you perhaps swore off the whole business."

Working with Max Dowling of Melbourne band Tetrahedra and Pete Covington from Spirit Faces to craft this track, Eilish wanted a "lot of emphasis on the vocal, to really engage the listener and invite them to share the experience.”

In her eighteen months as a solo artist Eilish has achieved an incredible amount. In 2016 alone she received airplay across Triple J, Double J and Unearthed, and supported local upstarts Alex Lahey and Confidence Man. Her warm, spectral pop music has earned well-deserved praise from Triple J's Zan Rowe and Dom Alessio, as well as features with Frankie Magazine, Bandcamp and more.

'The Feeling' is out now via TEEF Recordings. Expect more new music from Eilish later in 2017.

New single ‘The Feeling’ flexes a different muscle, pushing the latent unease of ‘Here’ into overdrive. While her 2016 singles lived on the ocean floor, ‘The Feeling’ finally breaks the surface of the water. It is Eilish’s version of a pop hit, breakneck production given nuance by her haunting vocal. Her 2016 singles placed her voice in the back of your mind, but ‘The Feeling’ finds Eilish branding her name onto the skin of Australian pop music.
