A QUICK CHAT WITH DOWN FOR TOMORROW

It’s been a bit of a whirlwind few months for the band, with shows at the Metro supporting The Maine and selling out your EP Launch in Newtown. How were those experiences? Does it feel like a lot of your hard work has started paying off?

There was a shit load of dopamine after those two shows! They were so rewarding, we all felt like all the hard work we’ve done this year is starting to pay off. And it’s exciting knowing this momentum is continuing. It’s a wonderful feeling seeing our audience expand and having more and more people engage and resonate with the music. Hopefully we can keep this up!

You’ve worked on a few releases now with Stevie Knight, who works with the who’s who of the Australian punk scene at the moment. What is your writing and recording process like? How has that relationship transformed through consecutive releases?

Working with Stevie on our first EP was eminent to our writing and recording process. He was very straight forward with where our strengths and weaknesses were, and how we could improve on that. After the group writing process of the first EP, the second EP was very much us all writing individually before meeting halfway to combine our ideas. Show Me That You Care was also written this way. The process was so much smoother, and the song writing was a whole lot better too. Stevie knows how to get the best out of his artists, and we’re grateful to work with him.

Much like your previous work, ‘Show Me That You Care’ seems like a pretty personal track. What was the general inspiration behind it? How much practice have you had to put into that ferocious scream of yours that is almost becoming a trademark of the band?

The song is a result of selfish and stubborn personality traits uncontrollably rising to the surface when you realise that some people are better off without you and are perfectly capable of moving on. There’s a lot of angst and denial in this song, and not a lot of holding back. The scream practice ritual is basically just watching Nirvana Unplugged on repeat!

You’ve just finished up playing a few shows with Aussie legends British India and you’re heading down to Melbourne in late November. What can audiences expect from your first show in Victoria?

A lot of energy, a lot of big yells, and some eccentric bass spins from Stitch.
