HANNAH's dream music group!

Hey Hannah, you’re in Melbourne, right? Sorry to hear you’re in lockdown, what have you been up to?

Hey guys!! Thank you so much for having me! Haha yes unfortunately we just got news it’s another 2 weeks in lockdown. It definitely sucks, but I guess I’ve learned a lot from being in isolation- and won’t take freedom for granted ever again, that’s for sure!

I’ve been doing zoom studio sessions lately, where I work online with my producer. Those sessions have been great, but working from different locations slows down the song writing process. It isn’t ideal, but at least we’re making some progress. My life at the moment is basically just writing music, eating, running, and watching youtube videos ! I do love alone time, but I just REALLY miss my friends and can’t wait to hug them all.

Any tips for other emerging artists on how to stay in the groove during these weird times?

I guess it’s just really important to not put a lot of pressure on yourself in these times. Getting and finding your groove can be hard, but I feel that it’s so unrealistic to expect yourself to stay in it all the time. When you find your ‘groove’, enjoy it in the moment, be real with yourself and accept that it won’t last, it’ll come and go. Take the good days with the bad. Things continuously change, and emerging artists, including myself, just need to do what we can with what we’ve got on that day.

The main thing I tell myself all the time, and that I’d say to any other emerging artist, is -there’s absolutely no rush. Take time with your art and make it reflect who you are, be honest with yourself. Don’t rush.

If you weren’t a musician what would you be doing?

Probably something else creative, like design or working in the business side of the music industry at a label or something like that. OR a primary school teacher! I’ve always wanted to teach, I feel like I’d like the routine, and I do like working with kids.

If you had to create a music group, who would you pick and why?

If SZA, Jhene Aiko, Kiana Lede and Khelani collaborated on a track together, I would have it on repeat forever. Individually, their songs have gotten me through a lot. Especially Jhene- her music has these healing sounds in it, and it’s just so pure and you can tell it’s really from her heart.

Anything new you’ve picked up in isolation (hobbies, interests etc.)?

I spray painted my shelves the other day which was fun! Podcasts (I love bobo & flex), tik tok, reading, watching RHOBH with my mum (the best part of the day), online shopping, writing music & journaling! Definitely keen to get out and do more things that doesn’t involve a screen when lockdown is over.
