SEAN HEATHCLIFF releases new single 'Ordinary' + announces forthcoming EP release

It’s been two long years since we’ve had the pleasure of releasing new music from Sean Heathcliff, fka Kagu. Since the Kagu EP, Heathcliff has explored writing novels, plays and scores for short films. Now releasing music under his own name, Liberation is excited to welcome the next chapter in Heathcliff’s career, with ‘Ordinary’. ‘Ordinary’ is the first single from the young musician’s forthcoming EP A Boy And His Rose – out March 17 and available for pre-order from today.

Premiering overnight on Richard Kingsmill's 2017 on triple j, ‘Ordinary’ exhibits a move towards a more live and organic sound for Heathcliff, with acoustic drums and minimal instrumentation. A delicate space is created through Heathcliff’s bittersweet guitar melodies and effortlessly unique vocal.

“ ‘Ordinary’ is a song of encouragement. Be creative and make the things you want, don't just wait on them. Try not to be suppressed or guided by rules that restrict you. Who cares if you're shit at it...” – Sean Heathcliff

The single offers a beautiful insight to the refined musicality Heathcliff pursues throughout the new EP - A Boy And His Rose, which was recorded and mixed in Melbourne in collaboration with producer Russell Fawcus (Slum Sociable, Noah and the Whale), and mastered by Andrei Eremin (Hiatus Kaiyote, Chet Faker).

The five handcrafted pop songs that make up A Boy And His Rose capture a unique and quintessential chapter in our lives – the passage from youth to adulthood. Heathcliff provides an inquiry into love and life in such a gentle way it allows you to do the same, writing from an intimate place about personal experiences, and yet in a way that is so universal his songs become your own reflections, each layered between lush musical landscapes.

Sean Heathcliff released his debut Kagu EP in 2015, which featured the singles ‘Shadow Of The Wind’ and ‘Human’. Both received extensive airplay nationally and have now collected over three million streams across Apple Music and Spotify. Heathcliff was also the co-vocalist and guitarist in much loved and missed band Snakadaktal, whose album Sleep In The Water debuted at #9 on the ARIA Albums Chart back in 2013.

Stay tuned for more details about A Boy And His Rose over the coming weeks…
