What's next for Daniel Trakell?

What are you doing to keep yourself occupied during this time of isolation?

Shot a music video with some friends, I've been working on some new songs, walking the dogs a couple of times a day and working my way through all the treats/chocolate/alcohol in my house

Tell us about the release?

Let Me Be is a song about burning out, feeling overwhelmed and needing a break from everything and everyone for a little while. So I guess in a way I got my wish, apart from the whole apocalypse pandemic thing. It was recorded in Nashville by my friend and producer Josh Barber.  He had moved there a couple of months earlier and suggested I come over for a visit and make a record together so we did! We recorded the vocals, guitar and upright bass in a single take gathered around a couple of mics at Alex the Great Studios then added the extra vocals parts, clarinet and percussion on top at his house.

What are three things you love doing outside of music?

Being out in nature, hiking in places like the Grampians.

Reading - I've been getting into science fiction the last couple of years, I just started on the second book of the Three Body Body trilogy by Chinese author Cixin Liu.

Re-watching The Office, Seinfeld and Peepshow over and over.

If you could be anywhere in the world right now, waiting this thing out. Where would you go?

I'm pretty happy to be riding it out in Melbourne, but perhaps a snow-covered cabin somewhere in Europe or a motel in the Californian desert would be nice.

What's next?

Well I'm releasing a series of singles this year followed by my debut album in October, but in a general sense I have absolutely no idea!  Who knows how long we'll be in lockdown, how many jobs and small businesses will be lost or when it will be possible to travel freely again, and what life will be like after all that.
