What’s next for Guard?

Hey Guard, how’ve you been? Congrats on the new release ‘Gaslight’. Do you have any interesting rituals when it comes to writing your music?

I’ve been doing well! Just been isolating with my fam in Melbourne. Thanks, I’m happy Gaslight is out - I actually wrote the title before writing the song..for this project I wrote a whole list of titles relating specifically to how I was feeling in a very depressive state.. I usually just go with the flow in the studio, but I knew what I wanted to say here.

Word on the street is your a certified meme lord...tell us how you got into this?

Haha yes unfortunately 😂 I started making memes about 6 years ago, a lot of my early stuff went really viral & built me a strong following on Instagram. These days I am more of a curator of memes after Instagram has continuously disabled my large accounts lol…. it’s just something I love to do. 

If you weren’t a pop star, what would you be?

Definitely a song writer, I love telling stories & helping others tell theirs. I still have a full time day job, hustling to be a pop star 😂🙏

What’s next in store for you this year?

I’m dropping a full album in late June, really excited to put it out & share my story. Also will be following it up with some new music & hopefully a couple of shows if everything goes back to normal. I’ve started a follow up project which I am keen to potentially get out later in the year.

You used to live in LA - is there anything you miss about being in that city?

The fashion for sure! I could wear anything in that city & never felt out of place. I miss a lot of my friends as well, but I know I’ll be back sooner or later :-)

What has being a musician taught you, and what advice would you give to someone who wants to pursue this career?

You gotta have your own back. My experience has been quite ruthless - from being completely ghosted by my record label & not being allowed to release music for a period of time, I guess I learned to trust myself & my instincts a bit more. Just have fun with it & put your frustrations into your music.

Favourite artists right now?

I’m really into SAINt JHN at the moment, every song is fire. I’m also loving Charli XCX’s new album!! My whole life is leading up to Chromatica though, so we shall see lol
