A QUICK CHAT WITH WOLFJAY

• ‘Togetherʼ is such an emotional and nostalgic song! How do you go about your song-writing process to capture these themes?

I think a lot of it comes from the artists I was listening to while working on the song, I went back and studied up on all the songs I was listening to in the early 2000ʼs, and trying to work out how all those pop punk songs sounded so huge and so great on the radio. I think there’s something really valuable about revisiting songs years later and trying to uncover more of their secrets, try to reverse engineer what made you love them in the first place.

• Originally coming from Adelaide, who are some artists we should keep an eye on from that city?

There are so many! I love Saint Jacques, W.M.N., Shahrae, Teenage Joans, Keeskea, Madura Green, Hot Mess, Oscar The Wild, and Ponytail Kink are all incredible!

• Having travelled far and wide, where would you say your favourite place to play is?

I had a house show at my parents’ place when they were away on a holiday once and that was wild because I could just go straight to bed after my set. A huge vibe.

• How will you be spending your time at BIGSOUND (other than playing at showcases of course)?

There are so many incredible panels that I’m excited for. I canʼt wait to finally see Her Sound, Her Story.
I think ultimately, I’m just keen to meet so many internet friends in real life!
