Get To Know TINY.

Boasting an infectiously euphoric future bass feeling, Sydney based singer, songwriter & producer TINY is exploding into 2021.

Her new self produced single Never Met You just got released and has shades of early Alison Wonderland. Exploring the rollercoaster of toxic relationships and the feeling of needing to move on from a person you have finally come to fully understand.

To celebrate her release we thought we’d sit down with her to learn more about her project and what 2021 has in store for her.

Congratulations on the release TINY and happy new year. Can you talk us through the creative process behind Never Met You?

Thank you! I made Never Met You at the beginning of 2020 when I was staying on the Gold Coast. For this project I started with producing first and I wrote the top line as I was making the track. I recorded some demo vocals then later in the year after I learned how to do my own vocal production/mixing I re-recorded the vocals and mixed it down. To me it was just one of those songs that I felt gave me closure on a previous relationship.

You’ve been in the music scene for a little while now as a DJ and it seems you have finally hit a stride with releasing music that is authentic to you. Does your past experiences as a performer affect the way you think about creating a single?

Definitely, I came from a very commercial background as a singer/songwriter where I did a lot of top line writing for other artists before I moved into DJing and learning how to produce music. The more I started DJing the more it inspired me to make music that felt right to me. Building a DJ career in Sydney definitely helped to craft me into the artist I am today.

You were lucky enough to play Splendour in 2019, and obviously 2020 had its fair share of events being cancelled, but if you had to choose what venue / festival would you love to play Never Met You for the first time?

I would love to play Splendour again. Simply because it was such a great vibe and everyone who worked behind the scenes there was amazing.

There are so many killer female performers coming out of Australia these days. Talk to us a bit about your influences and how they played a role in developing the TINY project.

Alison Wonderland was my biggest influence because I saw her journey from when she competed in She Can DJ to releasing her first album, then seeing her play at Coachella. She was like that permission slip which gave me the confidence as a female to put myself out there as an artist.

Over time I’ve seen so many amazing female producers that inspire me like Clozee, Rezz, Lucille Croft andGodlands who are all killing it. I feel like every time I see a female dj/producer making great music I just have instant respect for them because I know how much time and dedication it takes to master.

What are your plans for 2021?

This year I plan to really zone in on creating more content & improving my sound design as a producer. I love the process of making music just as much as I love performing, it’s like my therapy. So my plan is to delve into that and hopefully once the Covid settles I’ll start looking into playing festivals again.
