What‘s next for Felicity Light?

How are you? What’s been keeping you busy?

I’m excited as I've watched a long term dream of mine become a reality! I am loving the wave I’m riding promoting my first song! It’s been a busy month of releasing my debut single as well as the accompanying music video and as I've never done this before it’s been a real learning experience. I’ve been busy keeping the ball rolling and trying to reach  as many people as I can sharing what ’ve created.

Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you get the songwriting bug?

I always knew I needed to perform.  I’ve always wanted to sing and dance and knew I would pursue a career in the music and entertainment industry.  Growing up I was always songwriting here and there but I didn't pursue it seriously until I had something epic to write about, falling in love for the first time! I found myself experiencing all these new emotions that i didn’t quite know what to do with so i wrote them down and turned them into songs.

What’s your writing process like?

I always start at the top. I always begin with the first verse as that's where the story starts. Often, the first line comes to me, as in the lyrics and the melody simultaneously happen.  From there the melody develops. Once i have an idea of where i want the melody to go, the words that most naturally fit, fall into place and tell the story or convey the emotion i want to express.

What’s the inspiration behind “Need You To Stay?

I wrote “Need You To Stay” after being in a long distance relationship for a year and it was the first time I had ever been in love.  My boyfriend and I met whilst we were both working on a cruise ship and after three months onboard together  he had to return to his home to the other side of the world, South Africa. So, over the next year the long distance relationship continued and the song is all about the anticipation of seeing the person you love after not seeing them for months!  It’s also about how desperately you don’t want them to leave after you’ve been  together and having to separate again. It is truly awful having to say goodbye and not really knowing when the next time is that you’ll be seeing each other!

What’s the message you wish to send with your music?

With “Need You To Stay”, I really want anyone else out there also in a  long distance relationship to be able to relate to the lyrics and to know they are not alone! Relationships require work and if you put the effort in relationships can survive the distance. My boyfriend and I are still together four years later so I want to provide hope to anyone out there who may need it! All of my music though is feel-good. I just want people to put it on, have a dance to it and feel upbeat and positive!

If you could write a song for any musician, Alive or Dead, who would it be and why?

If i could collaborate with anyone it would be the OG Australian pop princess, Kylie Minogue! I have looked up to her my whole life watching her have hit after hit, pushing boundaries and dealing with all the ups and downs that have come her way.  I can’t imagine how fun it would be to work with her, shoot a video with her and perform with her!

Which artists/musicians did you listen to growing up?

I think the first album I ever listened to was The Spice Girls! My mum used to play it everyday in the car driving me to preschool so i think that pretty much set me on my pop princess dream! Growing up in dance classes I was listening to everything from ABBA to Shania Twain to Janet Jackson so listening to pop legends every afternoon and dancing to them really shaped my pop music passion. Also growing up, I had Delta Goodrem’s album ‘Innocent Eyes’ and The Veronicas first album “The Secret Life Of…” constantly on repeat!

What’s the best advice you’ve been given?

To have the courage to back the vision you have for your career. It’s important to stay true to the creative vision you have for your work even when you’re under pressure from others.

What are your long term dreams as a musician?

To have full blown, major production, live shows! To entertain people and make them feel amazing and inspired when they hear my songs and watch me perform! I would love to follow in the footsteps of the incredible Aussie artists who have come before me such as Delta, Ricki - Lee, Jess Mauboy, Samantha Jade and of course Kylie!! Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that legacy?!

What‘s next for Felicity Light?

In early 2021 I will be releasing my two other tracks that I have lined up and ready to go! I have some studio time booked in for January next year and can’t wait to see what my producer and I create. I am also in discussion to feature on another artists track, that would be my first collaboration which is a really exciting prospect!
