What’s next for Marshes?
Congratulations on the release of your new single ‘D.U.M.B.’ Is the song about anyone in particular? Hey thank you so much J This song’s not actually about anyone in particular, it’s based on my general past experience when you have feelings for people and it scares the shit out of you. Sometimes you’re so scared of them knowing how you feel that you overcompensate and when you’re hiding the truth, you’re not communicating effectively and you usually end up saying stupid things or just nothing at all.
When did you start writing and releasing music? My first single as Marshes was released last November. I’ve been writing for years for artists and producers either in sessions, on song writing camps or online, but there was a part of me that I wasn’t getting a chance to express and I wanted to be able to honour my own experiences and love for singing. So here we are.
How have you been occupying your time during the past few months in isolation? Walking a lot, eating a lot, actually enjoying a slower pace and the chance to develop some new skills like photo shop and final cut pro. I bought my very own microphone and have been playing with that. I was cat sitting in a house that was haunted and the pictures kept moving off the wall and showers were turning on. I also watched some new series on Netflix, ‘The After Life’ and ‘Queer Eye’. AND I’ve also been drinking a lot of wine too and sometimes crying. Oh and I moved house.
Is there an artist or producer that you would love to work with in the future? To be honest I’ve hit the jackpot with the people l’m currently working with. But it would be rad if Purple Disco Machine did a remix of one of my songs so I can play more of them in my dj sets.
What’s next for Marshes? Is there an EP or album coming in 2020, or some gigs? I just finished recording a single for the end of 2020 and its super fun. This years been a hard one to make future plans in so I’m just taking it week by week and coffee by coffee til the world finds a rhythm again.
