What’s next for The Dreggs?

Can you please tell us about your latest release ‘Call Me Home’?

As a musician, it’s really easy to fall into the trap of making something that should be fun and simple, so complex. ‘Call Me Home’ is—simply put—a happy and energetic track that should be enjoyed lightly. Whether you’re road-tripping down the coastline, thinking about your lover, or just wanting to dance around the house, we feel ‘Call Me Home’ is the perfect theme.

Have you both always wanted to be musicians? When did you start writing and performing together?

Yes, ever since we were young lads we wanted to become performing musicians. Both of us have been musicians for the majority of our lives, however, we never would’ve guessed we would meet one another and have such a great synergy. We both grew up in the same small coastal town in South East Queensland, but never met until 2017. It was then and there we decided to start playing and writing music together.

2020 has been a turbulent year for the whole world, but particularly for musicians and the live music scene. You were supposed to be touring with Kim Churchill, is this tour being rescheduled? If so, when? And what can fans expect to see at the shows?

2020 has absolutely been a challenging year for the music industry. We’re all feeling the brunt of it, but it is up to us to push through and keep working harder now more than ever to ensure we come out on the other side. Thankfully, we are still jumping on Kim Churchill’s tour nearing the end of the year. We’re super excited to play these shows with Kim, he’s an all time legend, and brilliant musician. Fans can expect to experience really nice and intimate shows with loads of storytelling and singalongs from us and Kim.

How have you been occupying your time during these past months in isolation?

We have been occupying ourselves by dedicating time to writing more music and spending more time in the studio, preparing ourselves for a big end to 2020 and start of 2021.

You are both strong advocates for mental health, how does this theme influence and guide your song writing?

We share a lot of our own personal experiences and stories about mental health at our shows and through our songs. Our writing implements these themes through sharing with people how we have dealt with our own experiences, all the while trying to create an ambiguity for listeners to have their own interpretation.

What’s next for The Dreggs? Will we see an album in 2020?

This year has been a funny one, however, we are working super hard to guarantee that the end of this year and the following years are going to be nothing but progressing and kicking goals. After our ‘Call Me Home’ release, we have been given the opportunity to headline a drive-in festival called Airwaves on the sunshine coast, alongside other artists like The Chats, and The Pierce Brothers. We also have a national tour which was postponed to the end of the year to kickstart our ‘Keepsake’ single release. A lot of our schedule has been postponed due to the current situation, which included the release of an album which we are aiming to release now at the beginning of 2021.
