What’s on the horizon for Georgia Dutton

Hey Georgia, I know everyone has been asking - but how’s 2020 been for you?

It’s been good so far! I’ve been busy working on heaps of new projects such as QUBE Effect, GYROstream’s Big Boost competition and writing heaps of new music. Hopefully 2021 will be a better year for gigs!

Congrats on your release of Far Away, can you tell us a bit about your song and the inspiration behind it?

Thank you so much! I wrote it at a school songwriting camp with Asha Jefferies while looking out at a mountain in the distance. At the time I was struggling to leave some relationships that just weren’t serving me the same way they used to. Writing “Far Away” was such a pivotal moment in the process of my growth. I used that mountain to create a personification of what could be if I moved on from those unhealthy relationships and found ones that fulfilled me.

If you had to pick a house full of people you could isolate with during COVID, who would it be and why?

First of all, amazing question! I think I’d only be able to cope with 3 other people in my house so with that in mind, this is who I’d pick. Firstly, Harry Styles so he could serenade me. Also, I just think we’d get along. Secondly, I’d have to say Nigella Lawson because she’d be able to cook for me. And last, but not least, Cat in the hat. I know he’s fictional but I can’t help but think he’d be a fun time in isolation.

When did you first discover songwriting?

I wrote my first song about going on holidays when I was in Grade 2. I’d like to think my songwriting abilities have improved since then! I’ve always had a love for creative writing and I think as I grew up that translated to songwriting. It’s always been my way to express myself and get out any emotions that are trapped. I think songwriting is a beautiful way to communicate honestly and openly without judgement.

What’s on the horizon for you, can we expect more music?

Absolutely! I’m in the process of making an EP with my lovely producer Levi Kohler. We’ve been putting together a few demos and I think we’re nearly ready to finish off the next few singles. I’m excited to share this new sound we’ve created and start writing the next EP!
