Why is the local music community so special to Fancy Face?

Tell us about ‘Just You Wait’. What inspired the new single?
Aaron Bach: Lyrically, the music is loosely based around a broken relationship.

What has it been like making your debut in 2020?
Alex Zielke: We’ve spent a lot of time and love putting this band together and practising. The hard work has certainly paid off. We are very proud of what we have accomplished thus far. It’s so great to have the influences of Julia, Alex and Sean in the band. Great musicians who put their own spin on the fancy face sound. We are a unit now and it feels so great to be a part of it

We heard we can expect an EP from Fancy Face in the near-future. What should we expect from that release?

Alex Zielke: Well you have had a taste of half the EP. We will be releasing a music video for 'Just You Wait' in the near future. Not to mention the other two songs off the EP that are unreleased. You can expect a delicious tangible wax that you can get your mitts on towards the end of the year too.

What’s keeping you busy during isolation?

Alex Zielke: Preparation for our music videos! Also practising our instruments. We can’t be rusty once we are allowed to play. On a personal level I have spent a lot of time eating. Don’t worry I’ll make sure I trim down for when we can tour again.

And what artists can’t you get enough of at the moment?

Alex Zielke: Recently I’ve gone down a black hole of nostalgia. Really enjoying the soundtrack to my teenage angsty days. X NAY ON THE HOMBRE - THE OFFSPRING. What an album. Also Beastie Boys - hello nasty. My favourite beastie album.

Which Melbourne venues are you most excited to see reopen?

Alex Zielke: ALL OF THEM. My heart aches for the live venue owners at the moment.I honestly want all of them to open back up.

I really feel that music punters should see as many shows as they can once things open up and have a couple of pints so that they can help the operators pay their rent. Our last show was at The Tote and we have very fond memories from our residency there in March.

How would you best describe your local music community, and what makes it so special?

Alex Zielke: The local music community is a force. Melbourne is such a powerhouse and is world renowned. Obviously it’s been flipped on its head as of late but if live music has a shot at surviving, it’s in Melbourne. When things were normal you could see shows any night of the week. Take Cherry Bar for example. That venue alone has live music 7 nights a week. What a treat!
